Mission 2012

Things are beginning to shape up for Mission 2012.  We are anxiously awaiting word from Brasil about dates and plans for next summer.  We will be letting everyone know when we have that information.

I'm trying to upload pictures to this site from this year's trip.  Sorry it has taken so long!  You can find most of the pictures on Adam's facebook page.

Thanks for all the prayers and support for Mission 2011.  It was a great trip with lots of great results.  We just received an email today with the leaders there in Brasil marvelling at how well the trip went.  They are already looking forward to 2012.

Get ready!!

Last Night in Brasil

Wow.  God is truly amazing.  A whole week in Brasil!  He has completely blessed us by allowing us to take part in His work.  After sharing the Gospel of Christ in Campo do Feijao all week, we have seen around 126 people make a profession of faith in Jesus Christ!!! It has been great!

But the hard part is here now.  We must say our "see you later"s and depart tomorrow.  I could write a book about what God has done, but I will leave the stories to be told when we arrive home.  Thank you, friends, for your prayers and support.  God has shown us great things this week and now we must take what we have learned and apply it to our lives.

Only two more days!!!!

We have had a wonderful day and week!  God has blessed us with good weather, and many opportunities to share the Gospel.  We have had 96 salvations and have sown many seeds.  Vacation Bible School in the mission is running over forty beautiful children!  Services at night have been awesome! (Tremendo!)  The work is not finished so please continue the prayers!

In service to Jesus, my Lord and Savior!

Day 3 in Brasil

This morning the Mission team divided up into two teams and went out to do street evangelism. After street evangelism this morning we went back to the church to eat lunch, after lunch we went back into groups of three and did street evangelism, delivered food, and house visits. After we finished our mission of evangelism, we attended church at Campo de Feijo where Pastor Bobby brought the message, Adam sang with his guitar, and Arielle gave a testimony about her trip here to Brasil. Today we had about 34 souls to be saved, but from the past few days we have had about 74!! We thank God for allowing us to bring those souls to him! We will continue to save souls after we have left Brasil and returned back into the United States and into the state of Arkansas!

Yours truly,
Arielle Rideout

First Two Days!

Wow! We are here! God's work is being done in a mighty way! Last night, we had an excellent service at Soberana! This morning we met in Campo do Feijao for a social activity at 9. The social project includes free dentistry, eye check ups, etc. We had a waiting room where people came to hear the Gospel of Jesus! This room was attacked by the devil this morning. People were changing the subject to personal beliefs and causing others to not accept Christ. Three people, however, did accept Jesus!  After lunch, this room got to kicking! We saw 13 more people come to Christ in about an hour and half! It was amazing! One man, Roberto, accepted Jesus and we spent some time with him afterwards. We could definitely see a change in his countenance and speech! God is amazing!

Another amazing thing happened with a child outside of the waiting room.  Jonas (Jonah) is a young man that stayed around where some of the team was blowing up balloons and painting faces. He talked to Mrs. Lou and he accepted Christ! He stayed with us almost all day long. And tonight, upon our arrival at the church in Campo do Feijao, we were greeted by this same Jonas that accepted Jesus just hours earlier!

All together there were church services at four churches tonight! Someone accepted Jesus at the church where Bro. Bobby preached!

Needless to say, God is doing an amazing work in Brasil! We are all very excited to be here and be a part of God's plan! Keep us in your prayers!

It's Time...

We have prepared for months.  Done an intense Bible study for the last 30 days.  Learned to walk with God.  And all of our preparation comes down to this.  So now we have to decide.  We can allow God to use us, or we can sit on the sidelines and do nothing.  I think you probably know us well enough to know which one of those we wll do!  The team is completely pumped up and ready to go!  God is going to show up and show out this week.  I am sure of that!

But you have to decide too.  You can pray for us, or just leave us in the back of your minds while we are gone.  This is no "un-important" task.  It is actually the best thing you can do for us!  Please pray that God's will be done in Brasil this week.

Almost time!!

Three days from now at this time we will be on our way to Little Rock.  It's hard to believe the time to leave is so near.  We know in our hearts this will be a great trip!! The devil has been working overtime to put stumbling blocks in our way...everything to health issues to lost passports!  But God is bigger and greater and more powerful and has it all under control!!  The news about the plans being made in Brazil is exciting also. We're going to be busy, but God will give us strength.

Pray for Nikki as she flies to Houston tonight for new visas and on Wednesday as she goes to the Brazilian consulate.  We learned yesterday that in an emergency, you CAN get a new passport in about two hours.  Thankful that God worked it all out.

We are hoping we have the ability to post updates and maybe even pictures once we are in Brazil.

We appreciate your prayers!!

In less than four weeks, we will be in Brasil.....where it is winter!! The high there yesterday was 72 degrees!

We have received information on our daily schedule and it is very exciting.  It looks like we will be very busy once again.  I will try to post it before we leave so you will know how to pray for us each day.

Our team covets your prayers and would love for you to begin praying for us even now.

Team members:  Stan, Connie, Adam, Bobby, Tracy, Colt, Lou, Jerry, Arielle, James and Nikki.

"And how shall they preach, except they be sent?  as is is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!"  Romans 10:15

It is time to start planning.

Thankfully, Sao Paulo is not as cold during their winter as it is here in Arkansas. However, it can still get cold. Last year we were very blessed. I was told it rained hard the entire week before we arrived and it remained warm and sunny while we were there. The day after we left, it started raining again.
We need to start thinking not only about the weather but also prepare now about some decisions we will be facing there, including how we dress. We are going from our summer to their winter. Make sure you pack accordingly. If you have any questions, please contact me.

In addition, while we are there we need to drink ONLY bottled water or water from a trusted filtering system. Avoid ordering food from street vendors, also. We don’t know how well they cook their stuff or their hygienic practices. The hot water in most homes in Sao Paulo comes only from the shower and not the sinks. This is only one cultural difference that can hurt you. They are accustomed to them but we are not.
And it is definitely recommended to be vaccinated against hepatitis, not only for Brazil but here, also.

Prayer request: that God prepares our hearts, minds, and bodies for this trip. Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. Don`t take yourself out of the game by not preparing correctly. Of course, it all starts with prayer.

São Paulo is the second most-densely populated city in the world, only behind New Delhi. It is easy to get lost there, especially if you are poor. Brazil just does not have the resources to contend with the poverty.

The good news is the evangelical movement is growing rapidly. A generation ago, only three percent of the population considered themselves evangelical. Today it is around 25 percent. It shouldn’t be considered a coincidence that the economy is also growing at a very rapid pace, also.

However, poverty still needs to be addressed in Brazil, both physical and spiritual. People flock to São Paulo for the jobs but they just aren’t there. Favelas, or slums, are seemingly everywhere, sometimes built within garbage dumps. No community is immune, including Soberana, where we minister.

Before we think ourselves as more fortunate in the USA, please remember this: New York City recently announced that 41% of all pregnancies ended in abortions. We might be better off financially but maybe we suffer from a different poverty.

We need to minister to our neighbors, both in our backyards and our neighbors 5000 miles from home—wherever God leads us.

* * * * * * * *

The trip now is only four months away and we need to start preparing ourselves physically, emotionally and spiritually. Our prayer request now is that God prepares our hearts to meet our neighbors in Soberana in their need and not as Americans. We need God’s help to melt away the cultural differences so they can know and have true hope.

2011 Trip

The dates are set for the 2011 Mission to Brasil.  We will leave Little Rock on Friday, July 15 to arrive in Guarulhos on Saturday, July 16.  We will work all week with Pastor Gerson at the new church and with Pastor Daniel at Soberana FBC.  We will depart Guarulhos on Satuday, July 23 to arrive back in Little Rock on Sunday, July 24.  Due to the rising cost of fuel, airline ticket prices have also risen.  We anticipate the cost of the trip to be approximately $1800 per person.  Currently there are a few spots available on the team.
Please contact us ASAP if feel God calling you to join the team.
Here is just a little information about the area of Sao Paulo we have been serving for the past 8 years.
Camp do Feijao is where the new church began last year and where we will work in 2011.

Sao Paulo is the second-most densely populated city in the world behind New Dehli, of which Guarulhos is a suburb and Camp do Feijao a district.  Guarulhos also recently just passed the 1 million population mark.  Many people come from the north of Brazil hoping to find jobs, not much different than the US population shift to the big cities after WWII.  However, the jobs just aren't there for many and they can choose between abject poverty in the north or abject poverty in Sao Paulo.  They choose Sao Paulo because it is target-rich for crime.

It also makes the fields ripe for a heavenly harvest.  Many look at these people from the north as problematic when the Church should see them as opportunity.
